A front door says a lot about the personality of your home or business and what’s inside. That’s why we take so much care to ensure it is carefully designed, expertly built and beautifully finished.

But, we don’t just stop at front doors. In our collection of timber doors, you will see front entrance doors, French doors, shutter doors, panel doors, stable doors, those suitable for conservation areas and those that are more contemporary.

Our bespoke timber doors are built to last and designed to stand out. Regardless of whether your property boasts a contemporary or period aesthetic, exudes an industrial or country charm, we’ll collaborate closely with you to craft and install doors that are tailored to the specific needs of your property.

Each of our wooden doors is meticulously handcrafted to embrace the individual quirks and nuances that make your home unique, accommodating everything from slightly askew doorways to panels affected by building movement.

Timber

Although softwoods and hardwoods are still very common, we encourage all of our customers to choose Accoya® wood. Accoya® has many benefits including reduced dimensional movement, anti-rot properties and long lifespan. We always use premium FSC-certified® timber sourced from sustainable, accredited sources.

Glazing

We have various glazing options available to suit your project, from efficient double glazing or conservation-friendly secondary glazing to opaque glazing options for privacy. Glazing options can also include stained glass designs and etched glass effects for house numbers and names.

Hardware

We partner with approved suppliers who provide us with an extensive selection of customisable traditional and contemporary styles to suit any period of property. Finishes can include anything from marine grade stainless steel to traditional polished brass to meet your design requirements.

SECURITY

Safe and Secure

All our doors are fitted with Winkhaus full height multipoint rail locks. The Winkhaus multipoint is a one-piece locking mechanism consisting of a latch, deadbolt and two hooks with an automatic locking mechanism. These locks can either be operated with a lever handle or a key wind version which can maintain the appearance of a traditional door but still maintain a high security locking system.

We chose Richard James Joinery to make us a brand new front door from scratch. Do you offer a fitting service?

We offer a full fitting service on all our doors and windows.

We go to great lengths to ensure our products have been fitted carefully and to a high standard, with as little disruption and mess for you, which is why our fitting service is carried by ourselves or a Richard James approved contractor. Read more

Can I have someone else install my doors?

Transportation and installation of the vast majority of our products is carried out by our team at Richard James. If, however you would prefer to collect your item, or use your own contractor we can discuss this with you.

Any product not being fitted by us will require full inspection before we can release it.

Can I chose the colour?

The easy answer is yes; our paint supplier Teknos have a colour matching laboratory which means we can match almost any colour. Our most popular colour choices for customers, are inspired by Farrow & Ball and Little Greene colours.

However, if you have a colour in mind that is not within our range, we can discuss whether it’s possible to match to your desired colour through Teknos’ colour matching laboratory. The beauty of this option is that you get your perfect colour or colours and we get to paint your product with the best quality paint for the job.

Will wood rot in bad weather?

Most types of untreated wood that are exposed to moisture will rot, however Accoya® wood has natural elements which help protect it from water ingress and rot. As an Accoya® approved manufacturer all our products come with Accoya’s ® unrivalled 50-year warranty for wood durability and a 25-year warranty in ground or freshwater.

We do still recommend painting or staining your product to prolong its lifespan.

Do you make the doors in-house?

All our timber doors are crafted in-house. This includes all wooden components; no beadings or mouldings are bought in.

What material do you make the doors out of?

Our door frames are made using Accoya® wood and our cills and threshes are made with hardwood; either Oak or Sapele. Accoya® wood is used because of its unmatched performance and durability, however it is too soft to use for a component that is going to get high levels of traffic such as door cills and threshes.

Do I have to use Accoya wood for my project?

Timber species used by some manufacturers can include Oak, Sepele, Red Grandis, Utile, Iroko plus many more. Oak is perceived as being a superior timber for external joinery work, but this is a common misconception. Oak is highly susceptible to dimensional movement, making it an unreliable timber for use in external items which need to be operational all year round. This is why we encourage all of our customers to choose Accoya® wood. Not only is it the most sustainable timber available, it also gives us peace of mind as a manufacturer that our products will be problem-free in their operation, throughout their lifetime, due to its superior dimensional stability.

The only time we don’t use Accoya® is for internal joinery that is going to get high levels of traffic such as door cills and threshes. All our cills and threshes are made with hardwood; either Oak or Sapele.

Do you do a colour match service?

Can I choose more than one colour for my project?

All our products are hand-made and hand-finished. Each product is individually painted which means we can fully finish any door or window with a dual colour scheme, to match both the internal and external materials and decor of your home.

Can I visit the workshop to see the progress of my job?
