Part of our the Tasapaino Collection by Ulaska Design

We’ve been working on a new piece in the workshop lately – a birch plywood swivel stool, currently in its early stages of prototyping. It’s part of our ongoing Tasapaino Collection, where we explore balance in both form and function.

This one is a simple idea: a clean, functional stool that rotates smoothly and quietly. Inspired by classic Finnish modernism, it’s been a good excuse to play with shapes and refine the movement. The goal is a quiet confidence in the design – nothing too shouty, just something that works well and looks right.

We’re using Baltic birch throughout but possibly with veneer or inlayed tops, as always – it’s reliable, strong, and fits with the tone of the rest of the collection. There’s still a few decisions to make around how the mechanism is housed and how the seat profile finishes, but that’s all part of the fun.

No launch date yet. Just something we’re slowly refining between jobs, with the aim of eventually offering it as a made-to-order piece.

If you’re interested in prototypes, one-offs or commissions around this sort of thing, drop us a message.
