Old School House

Situated at the top of a valley between Northumberland and County Durham, this beautiful old school house is vulnerable to bad weather conditions.

Our customer requested two new Oak doors and frames to match the existing stained windows. However Oak isn’t recommended for external joinery, due to dimensional movement, so we built the doors using Accoya® timber. Not only did Accoya® provide a beautiful natural grain for staining, its low water absorption properties meant it was the perfect choice for doors that would have to stand up to the elements.

The stain colours used to produce this rich colour finish were a base coat of Teak and a top coat of Iroko. Pewter hardware was chosen by the client with lion head door knockers, which are a great stand out feature and also give a dark contrast against the warm tone of the stain. Nico “3D” hinges were fitted to both doors to allow for more flexibility in door movement.
